Mutton Bustin' & Calf Scramble at the 2011 SLE Rodeo

In case you missed them last year, 2 of rodeo's most exciting events are coming back to the 2011 SLE Rodeo.

Mutton Bustin' will be held Thursday and Friday nights. The event is open to youth ages 6 and under, under 60 pounds. If interested in participating, please report to the Little Boots Rodeo booth (near the north gate entrance) to be entered into to the drawing to ride. The mounted rodeo announcer will announce when during the rodeo you should meet at the Little Boots Rodeo booth. You will be provided with all the equipment you'll need (helmet, vest, ropes, etc).

The Calf Scramble will be held during the Saturday matinĂ©e performance at 2 p.m. The Calf Scramble is open only to youth ages 9-12. Some of the calves turned loose in the arena will have ribbons on their tails that can be returned to a designated SLE official for a cash prize.

Home Run Media Relations

As is the case with any industry, the way popular media portrays the beef cattle industry has a big impact on public opinion of cattlemen and the product they raise.

Next month, the Southeastern Livestock Exposition will host its 53rd Annual SLE Rodeo. To kick off the advertising campaign for the event, each year the SLE hosts a luncheon at the ACA headquarters building to bring in members of the local media to talk about what's in store for Rodeo Week. This year's media luncheon saw over 60 members of the River Region media sit down together to enjoy a steak with over 50 SLE & ACA members on the 3rd floor of the cattlemen's building.

This creates an excellent opportunity not only to get folks fired up about the SLE Rodeo but also affords a chance for writers, reporters, anchors, and producers to get to know a little more about the state's beef cattle industry. This one-on-one interaction between SLE & ACA members with each major TV and radio station as well as newspapers and online news outlets from the Montgomery media market means a big home run for our industry. Below are a few pictures from the event:

Governor Bentley to Address Cattlemen

During this weekend's 68th Annual ACA Convention & Trade Show, cattlemen will hear from Alabama Governor Robert Bentley during the Legislative Luncheon to be held Saturday at noon.

This will be a return trip to the ACA Convention for Governor Bentley, as he was one of seven candidates for the state's top office to attend a Gubernatorial Forum hosted by the Alabama Cattlemen's Association during last year's annual meeting.

Exciting Stats from Bamabeef.org

Did you know the Alabama Cattlemen's Association totally redesigned it's website last fall? Not only does Bamabeef.org have a revamped look but it also has so many new features. Now, you can become a member of ACA online, shop in the MOOseum gift shop, register for the ACA convention, buy a banner ad, or join the junior cattlemen's association.

What does all this mean? It means that Bamabeef.org is getting a lot of traffic! In the month of January alone, the ACA website had more than 11,000 visitors! Since last September, more than 41,000 people have visited Bamabeef.org!

We hope you've taken the time to see all the features of the ACA website. We look forward to bring even more functionality to Bamabeef.org in the future!
