Movie Monday: Three Takes on Slow Cooked Beef

As the fall season gets closer, the smell of pumpkin candles and the coziness of a big sweater become comforting fantasies for the ladies about while the cooler weather entices the menfolk...especially the farmers! While the farm hands are busy baling hay and handling everyday farm duties, the family cook can find some great recipe ideas for slow cooked beef right here!

As those fall fantasies make those cold-season recipes become more and more appealing. Slow cooking is a popular cold weather meat cooking alternative to outdoor grilling, and this week’s #MovieMonday will show you how to add a punch of lite, summertime flavor to slow cooked #BEEF. Tasty Tuesday: Independence Day Burgers

The Fourth of July is all about celebrating America and the freedom we found from an oppressive government in 1776.

It's no secret that a favorite American pastime is eating, and that along with its summertime calendar date is what makes Independence Day weekend one of the biggest grilling weekends of the year!

This Fourth of July holiday, we at the ACA encourage all to celebrate America with an all-American meal! Grilling up some beef is the perfect way to do just that. We recommend combining two Independence Day classics for your celebration meal- barbecue and burgers! This Zesty BBQ Cheeseburger recipe will have you and your family fired up for fireworks and America, so gather 'round the picnic table with your family and serve up some beef. All you'll need is some fresh sides, a tall glass of sweet tea and a big appetite.

Keep in mind that ground beef needs to either be frozen or stored at a temperature below 40 degrees Fahrenheit until its time to prepare it in order to meet food safety standards. It's also important during grilling to ensure that the meat is cooked thoroughly. Ground beef is safe to eat when a meat thermometer reads 160 degrees Fahrenheit at the center of the burger.

Enjoy and Happy Fourth of July!

Tasty Tuesday: Leftovers Edition

Photo provided by the
Cattlemen's Beef Board
Memorial Day Weekend is the nation's #1 grilling weekend for #BEEF, particularly hamburgers! This week's Tasty Tuesday blog post centers around what to do with all those leftover hamburger patties. Here at the Alabama Cattlemen's Association, we suggest adding a flavorful spin on a mouthwatering classic.

What's the flavorful spin, you ask? How about combining two cultural classics- hamburgers and tacos!

Instead of putting that hamburger patty on a bun and covering it in ketchup, mustard, mayo, lettuce, tomatoes, onions and pickles, try wrapping it up in a flour tortilla shell along with salsa, guacamole and jalapeno peppers. By doing this, you'll eat up all those leftover hamburgers while creating a fun meal experience your family will love.

The recipe this week is for Fiesta Burgers Con Queso, and it can be found at BeefItsWhatsForDinner.com. (Keep in mind that this post is a "leftovers edition," so our recipe is slightly modified. If you have raw leftover ground beef that's been stored appropriately, you can follow the exact recipe here.)

Ingredients:

pre-cooked hamburger patties
small round tortillas, warmed

Optional Toppings:

Thinly sliced lettuce
chopped tomato
avocado slices
finely chopped onion
jalapeno pepper, minced
finely chopped fresh cilantro
shredded Chihuahua cheese, divided
salsa
sour cream
guacamole

"Leftovers Edition" Modified Recipe:

1. Spread guacamole and/or sour cream evenly on a warmed tortilla.
2. Place hamburger patty in the center of the tortilla and top with salsa and other desired toppings.
3. Wrap the edges of the tortilla around the patty.
4. Enjoy!

And remember- Beef, It's What's for Dinner.
